What is laser eye surgery?
A surgeon uses a laser to gently sculpt the cornea (the window at the front of the eye). The procedure, in almost all cases, enables the patient to see with their natural vision, as well as they previously did with glasses or contact lenses.
Is laser eye surgery safe?
- NICE Report 2006 published by the NHS confirmed laser eye surgery as "safe and efficacious"
- There is now almost 20 years of data worldwide
- There have been over 15 million treatments worldwide
- There are over 100,000 procedures performed every year in UK
- It has been a proven option for the armed forces and elite sportspeople (including the Prime Minister's bodyguards and the London Metropolitan Police)
What are the types of laser eye surgery?
- LASIK
- Surface laser: LASEK, PRK, EpiLASEK

- Take 4-5 minute per eye
- Are performed with the same laser
- Can be augmented with wavefront if necessary
- Are proven to be extremely safe

- Are performed in minutes (outpatient basis)
- Have highly predictable outcomes
- Offer the opportunity of long-term correction
What is LASIK?
